Communicates using simple gestures such as waving or holding up arms

Imitates different speech sounds

Has one to two words by their first birthday

1 YEAR TO 2 YEARS

Uses many different consonant sounds at the beginning of words

Can put two words together such as "more food"

Enjoys stories, songs, and rhymes

Points to pictures when named in books

Is actively using new words

Can use some one-or-two-word questions such as "where mama"

Can follow simple commands such as "push your toy" and simple questions such as "where's your ball?"
